Practice: Peer splinting
Assess distal neurovascular status
Splint the injured part in the position found
Immobilise the joint above and below the injury
Apply adequate padding to prevent pressure sores
Apply the Splint
Recheck distal circulation, sensation, and movement
Elevate the limb to reduce swelling
Document
Red Flags;
Absent distal pulse.
Increasing pain despite splinting.
Numbness or weakness.
Open fractures.
Suspected compartment syndrome.
Gross deformity with compromised circulation.
